Origins  Generation 1   Generation 2   Generation 4   Generation 5   Generation 6   Generation 7a Generation 7b

Note: The lineage from Generation 1 to Generation 4 is believed but not absolutely proven to be a direct lineage, but they are doubtless of the same family.  Generations 4-5 are proven by original documentation of the period to be a direct paternal relationship.  Generations 5-7 almost certainly represent a direct lineage given that the man in Generation 7 sold the property owned and passed down by Generation 4.

Generation 3

Nicholas Widney of Killymurry in
County Monaghan, Ireland

NICHOLAS WIDNEY, son of Nicholas Udny of County Cavan, Ireland, was born in the mid 1600s, in either County Cavan or County Monaghan, and died about 1730-31 in Killymurry, County Monaghan.  A will was recorded in 1731 in Clogher Diocese for Nicholas Widney of Killymurry, a townland held by the Widney family for several generations until 1784.  It is located in northern County Monaghan, near Emyvale.1/  Regrettably, all early Irish wills were lost in a 1922 fire, and all that survive are indices.  Nicholas appears in the relevant index as "Nicholas Widney of Killymurry".  Nothing else is known of Nicholas except that he had at least two sons ...

i.   JAMES WIDNEY I, b. abt. 1670 in Killymurry, County Monaghan, Ireland; d. abt. 1740 in Killymurry.

ii.   JOHN WIDNEY, b. abt. 1680; d. abt. 1741, Macosquin, County Londonderry.  In 1741, a will was recorded in Derry Diocese for John Widney, yeoman of Macosquin, County Derry/Londonderry, barony of Coleraine.2/

The next owner of Killmurry is presumed to be the son of Nicholas Widney ... James Widney I For a complete record of the Widney family of Ireland through the end of the 18th century, the evidence of their Scottish roots, and a discussion of Widney origins as told by Dr. George Wilds Linn, see :
